Host Highlights: The Essential Binx Episodes

Welcome to the second installment of Host Highlights! In this series, we take a look back at the history of our show and select memorable episodes from our catalogue that showcase each host’s unique point of view. In our first article we took a deep dive into some of the best episodes featuring our Classic Horror Connoisseur, Sean, which you can read here.

This time around, we’re asking you to light a prayer candle and grab your rosary beads, because tonight we’re summoning the Paranormal Paramour, Binx, who joined us in November 2022. She first met Kris at a horror-themed trivia night, where they discovered their common interests. This led to Binx asking if Kris had seen Terrifier 2, which brings us to her first appearance on the show.

Episode 248: Terrifier 2 (2022)

Fun fact: Her first recorded episode was actually the first Terrifier, which is a part of The Rewind, our Patreon-exclusive series where our current hosts go back and revisit a film from a time when our podcast team had a significantly different lineup.

Speaking of The Rewind, it’s worth noting that 2 of Binx’s top favorite movies, IT (2017) and The Conjuring (2013) were also covered on Patreon. With that being said, we can’t make a public list about the Paranormal Paramour without some paranormal favorites, so it’s worth checking out our coverage on other films in the world of The Conjuring to get a feel for Binx’s other slashes in the franchise:

Episode 288: The Conjuring 2 (2016)
Episode 289: The Nun 2 (2023)

Let the record show that as the proud owner of a Saint Binx candle, The Nun 2 will not be the only movie about nuns on this list. But for the moment, let’s remove our habit and slip on a nice red hoodie instead to talk about…

Episode 259: Warm Bodies (2013)

This is another one of Binx’s favorite movies, and it’s unique for our lineup in that it’s on the cusp of horror and blends romance and comedy, but it’s through this kaleidoscope of elements that we get to talk about everything from the awesome soundtrack, to how growth as a person changes our perception over time. As a long time Nicholas Hoult fan (Skins UK, anyone?), this is a great pick to get to know Binx more outside of the horror lense.

But speaking of a movie that blends genres, let’s talk about a musical that Binx had to fiercely defend.

Episode 267: Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008)

She was the lone slash on this episode, and it’s a tragedy. The haters are clearly just going through Zydrate withdrawal, because much like Warm Bodies before it, this musical episode is an Elder Emo staple. Not only is it rare to watch a musical episode for the show, but it also puts Binx in the uncommon position of being the lone defender of a movie.

Let’s transition from a lonely slash to a universal slash as we splice our way into..

Episode 290: The Fly (1986)

Binx often talks about being a big Cronenberg fan, and this is a really great episode to showcase that passion. It’s hard to top the body horror of what happens to Jeff Goldblum in this film, but let’s take a trip to the 100 Acre Wood as we prepare for a different kind of horror…

Episode 312: Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023)

I have a legendary quote from Binx about this movie that speaks for itself:

How interesting would it be if people were into Pooh in this film? Pooh is giving dad bod. Muscular build, okay? I feel like some people might find that attractive. I’m convinced that if he had more of a chiseled jawline, I think that there would have been some fans out there”.

I’ll let you ruminate on that one. To be fair to Binx, she insists she’s not speaking about herself. But still…hide your honeypots, folks. While we’re on the subject of supernatural thirst traps…

Episode 315: Silent Hill (2006)
Episode 325: Silent Hill: Revelation (2012)

There’s a lot I could say about Pyramid Head and the discourse on our Discord about his “zaddy” status, but the real inclusion for these picks is that Binx is a gamer. And even though the first film was more warmly received than the second, it’s worth having a listen to see how Binx’s love of gaming and film can mesh together, even to mixed results. Now, this next one is a personal favorite.

Episode 374: Strange Darling (2024)

This is one I wanted to include because of Binx’s love for Kyle Gallner performances. Dinner in America, Scream 5, Smile, Jennifer’s Body, and definitely this film. The nonlinear storytelling of Strange Darling keeps you engaged, especially when you’re already invested in the cast going into the movie. It leaves you receptive to surprises. Speaking of, let’s end this collection with a surprise hit.

Episode 340: The First Omen (2024)

A lot of us didn’t expect that a prequel to a classic film originally intended for release on Hulu would end up being a beloved theater going experience. But Binx left that theater screaming to the sky “I love movies!” and it became one of her favorite movies of the year.

Her enthusiasm and infectious passion for film are just two reasons why it’s hard to make a list like this because you could make a compelling argument for a lot of movies. So feel free to try!
